The new breakthrough of artificial intelligence robot will be expected to “emotion”?

AsiaIndustrial NetNews: An exciting news came from the International Standards Conference in Berlin, Germany: the Chinese scientific research team proposed a standard on “emotional interaction” and was officially approved, which once again opened up people’s illusions about artificial intelligence:robotCan you get emotional, can you fall in love with humans?

A reporter from China Youth Daily and China Youth Online confirmed the news of the meeting to researcher Wang Hongan, one of the initiators of this standard and director of the Human-Computer Interaction and Intelligent Information Processing Laboratory of the Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences: The “Information Technology Emotional Computing User Interface Framework” jointly proposed by the Institute of Standardization and Shanghai Zhizhen Intelligent Network Technology Co., Ltd. (Xiaoi Robot) passed the international vote at the German ISO/IEC JTC1/SC35 meeting and was approved.

Wang Hongan also told reporters that the standard is not only China’s first international standard project in the field of “user interface”, but also the first standard project on affective computing of the international “user interface” sub-committee, which can be said to fill the gap at home and abroad. Standard blank for this field. In layman’s terms, human-computer emotional interaction will have a unified “discourse system” on a global scale, that is, how to define joy, anger, sorrow and joy.

There never seems to be a lack of interest in artificial intelligence. Whether it’s AlphaGo’s victory over 9-dan Go player Lee Sedol last year, IBM’s announcement that artificial intelligence improves cancer diagnosis and therapy, or this year’s Google Master’s 60-game victory over the top Go players in China, Japan and South Korea, and the robot Xiaodu’s victory over “Ghost” in the show “The Strongest Brain” “Eye Talent” Wang Yuheng, it is difficult to find another emerging technology that can be so eye-catching. In 2017, “artificial intelligence” was written into the government work report for the first time, which triggered a new wave of artificial intelligence.

However, a subsequent question has also been brought up for discussion, that is, whether robots can have “subtle emotional thinking” like humans, and “intelligent” like humans – after all, AlphaGo only “wins” in computing speed ”, but in terms of feeling, emotion, etc., it is still not comparable to human beings.

Therefore, the research on human-computer emotional interaction is born.

In fact, emotional interaction has become a hot direction in the field of artificial intelligence, and its purpose is to make human-computer interaction more natural. However, Wang Hongan told reporters that there are various ways of processing emotional interaction information in the human-computer interaction interface. There is a lack of unified standards for emotional description methods, emotional data acquisition and processing processes, and emotional expression methods. This is why the Chinese team has to propose a new standard.

The standards for the establishment of this project include a number of contents, which involve normative descriptions of basic concepts, emotional interaction processes, and emotional interaction technical frameworks. In the future, more detailed standards will be developed for sentiment classification and expression, functional interfaces of sentiment computing user interfaces, sentiment expression and presentation, and sentiment datasets as needed. With these, the application and development of human-computer interaction robots in the future can be expected: the robot will no longer be a cold machine, but a “warm robot” that can share and share emotions.

Wang Hongan said that with the continuous development of computer technology, deep learning based on neural networks has become possible, and the application of artificial intelligence will also increase. According to his estimates, emotional computing robots will have some pioneering typical applications in the next 3 to 5 years, and gradually spread to human life.

For example, a movie viewing survey can test the excitement of human beings by observing changes in human expressions through emotional computing robots during the entire movie process. Affective computing robots can also detect the driver’s state while driving and prevent dangerous conditions such as fatigued driving. Even in the medical field, it can observe the emotions of patients with autism and other diseases.
